From 5 parcels to 5000; the rapid rise of independent nursery retailer Direct4baby
by Lucy Gregg
Nursery retailer Direct 4 Baby has seen a steady and continued growth over the past few years and are now developing into one of the top independent nursery businesses in the UK. From humble beginnings back in 2014 with a team of just 3 people operating our baby website in Liverpool to now being on target to send out over 150,000 parcels in just our 5th year running.
Royal Mail Filming
This sustainable and steady growth of the nursery retailer has been noted by Royal Mail who got in touch recently to ask if they could create a case study on our recent success. This was flattering and also a great opportunity to showcase our blossoming baby business to all the employees at Royal Mail on their own TV channel ‘RMTV’.
So the Royal Mail crew came out to film our busy baby showroom in Burscough, Lancashire and took some great videos of our prams, car seats and baby furniture. They then filmed our logistics operation in our 10,000 sq ft warehouse, capturing our awesome staff in operation. They wanted to showcase how we stored, picked and packed our products and were hugely impressed with just how slick the operation is!
Finally they interviewed me, ‘Baby Dave’ – Director of Direct 4 Baby Limited…
Royal Mail were interested in our success, what we put that down to and also our vision for the future.
Have a nosy at the below video to show a snippet of one of the videos they have edited for us:
To be honest it was a great exercise as it prompted me to look at just how far we have come in a short space of time. We have gone from stocking small units of budget products to selling huge amounts of the UK’s leading baby brands including iCandy, Egg, Cybex, Maxi-Cosi, Kiddy, Silver Cross, Doona, Babyzen, Besafe & Ergobaby to name but a few.
I'm unbelievably proud of our journey so far, the awesome ‘Avengersesqe’ team team we assembled along they way and finally our strong and happy relationship we have built with key partners such as Royal Mail.
This adventure is amazing and a pleasure to be part of and I’m excited to see where we’ll be in another 5 years time… Watch this space!
